Bhumi Pednekar Calls For Societal Change In Wake Of Kolkata Doctor Incident
Bhumi Pednekar's recent social media post has sparked significant attention. Her note, shared on Raksha Bandhan 2024, addresses the persistent issue of crimes against women. Bhumi highlighted how women have grown up hearing about various forms of violence, including domestic abuse and acid attacks. She questioned why women still need their brothers' protection in 2024.
The tragic case of a young doctor's assault and murder in Kolkata has shaken the nation. This incident has led to widespread protests by both doctors and the general public, demanding justice. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance and is expected to hear the case soon. Bollywood celebrities have also voiced their condemnation and called for justice.

In her heartfelt note, Bhumi wrote, "2024 hai lekin phir bhi humne hamare bhai ki Raksha ki zarurat hai. KYU? Kis kis se bachayega hume hamara bhai? Wo sarre bhi kisi ke bhai honge jinhone ladkiyon pe ye saare atyachar kiye? Ye ghinhone kaam karte hiye unhe ek bhi baar apni behen ya maa ka khayal nahi aaya? Kahan gaya in sabka darr? Kahan gayi insaaniyat? Iss rakshabandhan bahur saare sawal uthao. Apni beheno aur betiyon ke saath is ladai ko aage badhao. Apne pariwar ke ladkon ko sahi shiksha aur gunn sikhao. Taaki agli peedi wo nahi sune jo hum apne bachpan se sunte aa rahe hain".
She emphasised that men should be raised and educated properly to prevent future generations from facing similar issues. Bhumi captioned her post with, "Happy Rakshabandhan. I've been fortunate to have had brothers and men in my life that have been my allies. Thank you!"
The incident has reignited discussions about women's safety in India. Many people are questioning the effectiveness of current measures and calling for stricter laws and better enforcement to protect women. The nationwide protests reflect the collective outrage and demand for change.
