Bhavana Menon Discusses Her Abduction And Assault Experience After Five Years Of Silence

The entertainment world is often seen as a realm of glamour and fame, yet it also harbours stories of pain and survival. While Bollywood actresses frequently face tragic events, their South Indian counterparts are not immune to such hardships. A prominent South Indian actress, who gained fame through numerous successful films, became embroiled in a case of abuse and accusations despite her popularity.

Bhavana Menon, a well-known actress from Kerala, has primarily worked in Malayalam cinema but has also appeared in Kannada and Tamil films. Her filmography includes titles like "Chithiram Pesuthadi," "Daivanamathil," "C.I.D. Moosa," "Vilakkumaram," and "Tagaru." Bhavana's career spans over 80 films.

Bhavana Menon Opens Up About Assault Case

In 2017, Bhavana was travelling from Thrissur to Kochi when she was assaulted by a group of men. This incident gained significant attention when Dileep, a co-star in several of her films, was implicated as one of the accused. Dileep, a Malayalam film star, faced arrest for three months and underwent intense questioning before being granted bail.

The trial for Bhavana's case commenced in 2020. During this time, she had to recall every detail of the traumatic event. She revealed that during her journey from Thrissur to Kochi, she was kidnapped and videos were made during the assault. Given Dileep's prominence in the South Indian film industry, many local media outlets questioned Bhavana's claims about him.

In 2022, Bhavana spoke to BBC about the ordeal: "I was just a normal fun-loving girl and then this one incident happened that turned my life upside down. Most people see the smiling photos I post on social media, but I have been to hell and back." She continued, "I became this victim, this 'assaulted actress'. And for long, I kept asking, 'Why me?' I was blaming myself and I was looking for a way out."

Many questioned Bhavana's integrity during the trial process. Some even accused her of fabricating the case against Dileep. Reflecting on these accusations, Bhavana expressed her anguish: "I was devastated, broken into a million pieces; all these things were very hurtful to me. I sometimes wanted to scream at the top of my lungs." She further stated, "My dignity was snatched and then I was victim shamed."

This case highlights the challenges faced by actresses in the industry when they become victims of crime. Despite facing immense pressure and scrutiny from various quarters, Bhavana continues to stand firm in her pursuit of justice.
