Bengali Fan Makes Waves As Content Creator With Bollywood Imitations

Masum Khan, hailing from Dakshin Dinajpur in West Bengal, once aspired to be a Bollywood star. Although he didn't make it to Mumbai, he has become a local hero and a popular content creator.

Growing up, Masum was captivated by Bollywood films and idolised actors like Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan. He watched movies on a small black-and-white TV while helping his father with their modest cement business. He entertained customers by reciting movie dialogues and even joined nearby theatre classes.

Due to the struggling cement business, Masum had to drop out of college and quit his theatre classes. He moved to Delhi to pursue a career but faced failure quickly. In 2018, he returned to his village and rekindled his passion for Bollywood through short video platforms.

He began creating content by lip-syncing to movie dialogues and soon started recreating scenes from his favourite films. One notable scene he recreated was from the movie "Vastav," where Sanjay Dutt's character catches the culprit who killed Dedh Futiya.

Another favourite video of Masum's is his portrayal of 'Munna Bhai,' which gained significant popularity. His unique style resonated with people, including those in his village. "I believe in Shahrukh Khan's dialogue from Om Shanti Om - 'When you want something, the whole universe conspires in order for you to achieve it,'" Masum proudly shared.

During the pandemic, Masum created a profile on the Indian short video app Josh, replicating his content style there. Josh's audience, comprising over 100 million cinema enthusiasts, matched perfectly with his style. To appeal to this diverse audience, he began recreating scenes from South Indian films in Hindi.

Success on Josh Platform

Masum's recreated scenes went viral on Josh, leading him to earn money through the platform's Creator Pro program. This program evaluates content engagement without requiring millions of followers or numerous videos. Receiving his first payment brought immense joy and satisfaction.

"There is no bigger happiness and satisfaction than earning money doing what you really love. Thanks to Creator Pro, my faith in hard work is restored," said Masum. From entertaining customers in a cement shop to becoming a known entertainer, his life has transformed significantly.

Masum still dreams of being recognised by Bollywood director Rohit Shetty and hopes for an opportunity to showcase his talent in a Bollywood film someday.
