Bade Miyan Chote Miyan And Maidaan See Disappointing Box Office Returns
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Maidaan Box Office Collection: The much-anticipated films starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (BMCM), alongside Ajay Devgn's Maidaan, were released during the Eid weekend, a period traditionally known for blockbuster hits. However, contrary to expectations, both movies have not fared well at the box office. BMCM managed to gather around Rs 45 crore, while Maidaan lagged with a collection of approximately Rs. 25 crore over six days. This performance has led to both films being labeled as box office disappointments.
Filmibeat engaged in a conversation with Manoj Desai, the executive director of Maratha Mandir and Gaiety-Galaxy, to discuss the box office performance of these films. Desai shared insights into how the movies fared not only in his cinemas but across Maharashtra and India. He expressed disappointment over the Eid releases, noting that the expected crowd did not turn up, leading to cancellations of Maidaan shows and a mere 40-50% occupancy for BMCM. Desai highlighted that despite the filmmakers' concerns over negative talk affecting public perception, the audience is discerning enough to make their own viewing choices.

Desai also touched upon his personal relationship with the stars of BMCM, referring to Akshay Kumar as his "jigri" (close friend) and Tiger Shroff as akin to a son. Both actors had visited his theatre, which added to his disappointment over the films' underperformance. He mentioned the upcoming release of LSD 2 with a hopeful note but remained candid about his disillusionment with this year's Eid releases. According to Desai, despite years of successful Eid weekends, this year's outcome was unexpected and disheartening.
The underwhelming performance of BMCM and Maidaan marks a slow start to Bollywood's second quarter, following a promising first quarter. The industry, which often sees significant revenue from Eid releases, will now look forward to recovering from this setback in the coming months.
