Baby John Box Office Collection: Varun Dhawan's Film Fails To Surpass Rs 1 Crore On Second Sunday

Varun Dhawan's latest film, Baby John, has been a hot topic since its release. This action drama also stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff, and Sanya Malhotra. Directed by Kalees and produced by Atlee and Murad Khetani, the film is a Bollywood remake of the 2016 Tamil movie Theri, which featured Thalapathy Vijay and Samantha.

Keerthy Suresh makes her Bollywood debut with Baby John, marking her first collaboration with Varun Dhawan. Jackie Shroff plays the main antagonist, while Varun takes on the titular role of a cop for the second time after Dishoom. Despite generating significant buzz before its release, Baby John has faced challenges at the box office.

Baby John Struggles at the Box Office

The film struggled in its initial week at the box office. There were hopes it would gain momentum over the weekend. However, it failed to reach Rs 1 crore in daily earnings despite an increase in collections. According to Sacnilk, Baby John earned Rs 75 lakhs on day 11 (second Saturday) and Rs 90 lakhs on day 12 (second Sunday), bringing its total earnings to Rs 38.60 crores.

The second weekend saw sluggish performance for Baby John. With collections of Rs 75 lakhs on Saturday and Rs 90 lakhs on Sunday, the total weekend earnings amounted to Rs 1.65 crores.

In an interview with India Today, Varun Dhawan discussed drawing inspiration from Theri for Baby John. He explained that director Atlee intended to adapt rather than directly remake the original film. "When Atlee came with this film, there was a reason behind it," he said. "We have to use it as an adaptation and not really a proper remake." He noted that many frames and story angles differ from Theri.

Varun emphasised that those expecting a direct remake might be disappointed as Baby John is more of an adaptation. "We're not running away from that," he added, highlighting the creative changes made to suit Bollywood audiences.

Despite its challenges at the box office, Baby John's unique approach as an adaptation rather than a direct remake offers a fresh perspective on the original story for Bollywood fans.
