Baby John Box Office Collection Day 5: Varun Dhawan's Film Falls Short Of 30 Crores Despite Strong Anticipation

Varun Dhawan's latest film, Baby John, released during the festive season, has been eagerly awaited by fans. Directed by Kalees, this action drama is a Bollywood adaptation of the Tamil movie Theri, originally starring Vijay Sethupathi. The film features Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff, and Wamiqa Gabbi alongside Varun. Produced by Atlee and Murad Khetani, it has generated significant anticipation.

Keerthy Suresh makes her Bollywood debut with Baby John, while Jackie Shroff plays the main antagonist. Varun takes on the lead role as a cop for the second time since his 2016 film Dishoom. The movie's trailer and catchy songs have created a buzz, but its box office performance has been underwhelming recently.

On its first Sunday, Baby John maintained a steady box office collection. After earning Rs 4.25 crores on Saturday, it collected Rs 4.75 crores on Sunday. This brought the total earnings to Rs 28.65 crores by day five.

The opening weekend for Baby John was not as successful as expected. It earned only Rs 9 crores during this period. The film faced tough competition from Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule, which is in its fourth week and earned over twice as much as Baby John during the same weekend. Pushpa 2 collected Rs 22.25 crores in its fourth weekend.

In an interview with India Today, Varun Dhawan discussed how Baby John draws inspiration from Theri but is more of an adaptation than a direct remake. He explained that director Atlee wanted to change many aspects of the original film's geography and story angles to create something unique for Bollywood audiences.

"When Atlee came with this film, there was a reason behind it," Varun stated in the interview. "He said that we had to change a lot of the geography of the film. We have to use it as an adaptation and not really a proper remake, and I think that's what's done."
