Baby John Box Office Collection Day 2: Varun Dhawan's Film Sees Significant Decline Amidst Competition
Varun Dhawan's latest film, Baby John, has been eagerly awaited this year. It is the official Bollywood remake of Thalapathy Vijay's 2016 film Theri and marks Keerthy Suresh's Bollywood debut. Directed by Kalees, this action thriller also stars Wamiqa Gabbi and Jackie Shroff in key roles.
In Baby John, Varun portrays a cop for the second time on screen, while Jackie Shroff plays the main antagonist. The trailer received a fair response, and fans were excited for Varun's first major release of 2024. Despite the anticipation, the film received mixed reviews from both audiences and critics.

Baby John had a promising start at the box office with an opening day collection of Rs 11.25 crores. This marked Varun Dhawan's highest opener since the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there was a significant drop of around 60% on the second day. According to Sacnilk, Baby John earned Rs 4.5 crores on its second day (first Thursday), bringing its total earnings to Rs 15.75 crores.
The film faces tough competition from Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule, which released on December 5 this year. Even in its fourth week, Pushpa 2 is outperforming Baby John at the box office. On December 26, which was its 22nd day in theatres, Pushpa 2 collected Rs 7.25 crores in the Hindi-speaking market.
In an interview with India Today, Varun discussed how Theri inspired Baby John. He said, "When Atlee came with this film, there was a reason behind it, and he said that we had to change a lot of the geography of the film. We have to use it as an adaptation and not really a proper remake, and I think that's what's done. Like you see, a lot of the frames and a lot of the story angles are different. So if someone comes in expecting a book-by-book remake, they will be disappointed because that's not what the film is. It's an adaptation. We're not running away from that, but it's more of an adaptation."
