Anu Aggarwal Discusses Casting Couch Experiences And Industry Challenges For Women
Anu Aggarwal, known for her roles in films like Aashiqui and King Uncle, made a significant impact in Bollywood. After a successful start, she took a break from acting. Now back in Mumbai, she recently shared insights with Filmibeat about her experiences, including the challenges of the industry and the #MeToo movement.
Discussing her hiatus, Anu explained that fame and money don't guarantee happiness. "People think you earn money, you become famous, and then everything will be fine, you will become a queen, but it doesn't work like that," she said. She realised that being constantly judged as a public figure is challenging.

Aggarwal highlighted various challenges in the film industry beyond the casting couch. "There are so many challenges, casting couch is not the only one," she noted. She believes aspiring actresses should be prepared for these realities to avoid disappointment and depression.
She recounted an incident involving a young co-actor who faced casting couch pressures. "In one of the films that I was shooting, a girl flew down from London after speaking to director on the phone," Anu shared. The girl sought refuge with Anu after being propositioned by someone on set.
Anu provided comfort but also pointed out the harsh truths of the industry. "I pacified her, but I also told her 'this is the industry; didn't you know?'" she recalled. The girl's lack of awareness highlighted the importance of initiatives like the Hema Committee in raising awareness.
Recently, discussions around the #MeToo movement have intensified within the Malayalam film industry. The Hema Committee Report has been prominently featured in news headlines, shedding light on these critical issues.
