Anoushka Shankar Secures Two GRAMMY Nominations For Her Album Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn

Anoushka Shankar is set to achieve a significant milestone on the international stage. The acclaimed sitar virtuoso has received two GRAMMY nominations. Her solo album, 'Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn,' is nominated for Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album. Additionally, her collaboration on 'A Rock Somewhere' with Jacob Collier and Varijashree Venugopal is up for Best Global Performance. Shankar, a pioneering composer and sitarist, skillfully merges classical and contemporary styles with acoustic and electronic elements. As the daughter of the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar, Anoushka has now garnered 11 GRAMMY nominations for her outstanding musical contributions.

For those unfamiliar with her journey, Shankar's first GRAMMY nomination came in 2002 in the World Music Category for 'Live at Carnegie Hall.' This made her the first Indian woman to be nominated and the youngest nominee in that category. In 2005, she became the first Indian musician to perform at the GRAMMYs and later served as a Presenter in 2016. She has since delivered multiple performances at the event, including one during lockdown and another last year with Arooj Aftab from Pakistan.

Anoushka Shankar's Two GRAMMY Nominations

Over time, Shankar has received GRAMMY nominations for several solo albums such as Rise (2006), Traveller (2013), Traces of You (2015), Home (2016), Land of Gold (2017), Love Letters (2021), and Between Us... (2023). Her ability to blend diverse musical genres continues to earn her recognition on this prestigious platform.

Looking beyond the GRAMMY spotlight, 2025 promises to be a pivotal year for Anoushka Shankar. She will celebrate three decades of performing while continuing to push musical boundaries. In March 2025, she will embark on a U.S. tour followed by a European tour in summer and an India tour in December 2025. These tours will support the release of her eagerly awaited third Chapter in the series.

Anoushka Shankar's journey reflects her dedication to music and innovation within it. Her achievements not only honour her father's legacy but also pave new paths for future musicians globally.
