Anoushka Shankar Shares Aspirations To Return To Bollywood And Compose Music For Films
Anoushka Shankar, a celebrated British-American sitar player, excels in both classical and contemporary music. She has been nominated for the Grammy Awards 11 times, including two nominations this year. Her album 'Chapter II' is up for Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album. Expressing her gratitude, Shankar told TOI, "It's been a long journey with the Grammys. I'm particularly happy that my album has been nominated, as I'm really proud of this piece of work."
Shankar's journey at the Grammys is intertwined with her sister Norah's experiences. "This is the third year that my sister and I have been nominated at the same time," she said. Anoushka recalled being present when Norah won five Grammys during her first nomination year. Two years ago, they walked the red carpet together, celebrating their shared achievements.

In 2004, Anoushka appeared in 'Dance Like A Man' alongside Shobhna, Arif Zakaria, and Samir Soni. Recently, she discussed her interest in acting again after nearly two decades. "Acting in a film? You know what, I would really love to do it again because there were some ways in which that was really fun," she said. Now more confident than at 20, she finds the idea appealing.
Shankar also expressed interest in composing for Hindi films. She stated, "Oh, 100 per cent! The more I mature as a musician and the more I grow as a person, I feel like scoring is a beautiful extension of my work." Having gained experience abroad, she looks forward to exploring opportunities in India.
The year 2025 will mark three decades of Anoushka Shankar's performances. She plans a US tour in March 2025 and an India tour in December 2025. Her new album 'Chapter 3' is set for release between February and March 2025.
