Ali Abbas Zafar And Two Associates Charged With Duping Producer Vashu Bhagnani Of Rs 9 Crore

Ali Abbas Zafar, a film director, along with Himanshu Mehre and Ekesh Randive, faces allegations of defrauding producer Vashu Bhagnani of Rs 9 crore. This information was shared by a police official on Monday. The First Information Report was filed on Sunday at the Bandra police station, accusing the trio of misappropriating funds. The case was initiated following a court directive.

The charges against Zafar, Mehra, and Randive include criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, cheating, forgery, fraud, defamation, and criminal intimidation under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. These charges stem from Bhagnani's complaint to the Bandra magistrate court. He sought legal action against Zafar, who directed "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan," featuring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. The film was released on April 11 this year and produced by Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment.

Bhagnani alleged that the trio had initially agreed to a Rs 154 crore budget for the film but later demanded Rs 230 crore, citing budget overruns. He accused them of creating fake invoices to embezzle Rs 9 crore. The magistrate's order on December 2 confirmed that these offenses were cognisable and non-bailable.

The court observed that Zafar and his associates persuaded Bhagnani to make multiple payments over time. They allegedly breached their contract by incurring extra expenses without providing any financial accounts for these costs. Despite these serious allegations, no arrests have been made so far in this case.

The investigation into this matter is still ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence. The police are working to uncover more details about the alleged financial misconduct involving Zafar and his team.

This case highlights the complexities involved in film production financing and the potential for disputes over budgetary matters. It serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in financial dealings within the entertainment industry.
