Sarfira Review: Akshay Kumar Delivers A Captivating Performance In Soorarai Pottru Remake

Sarfira Review: In 2020, the Tamil film Soorarai Pottru premiered on Amazon Prime Video. Initially intended for theatres, it shifted to OTT due to the pandemic. The film garnered critical acclaim and won several awards, including multiple National Awards. Now, its Hindi remake titled Sarfira is set to release tomorrow (12th July). Is it worth watching? Our review delves into this question...

The plot centres around Vir (Akshay Kumar), an ex-IAF officer who dreams of launching a low-cost airline to make air travel accessible to middle and lower-class people. The story unfolds as he plans, executes, and overcomes various challenges.

Sarfira: Akshay Kumar Excels in Remake

Having seen Soorarai Pottru, Sarfira's storyline wasn't new to me. The key was how Sudha Kongara, who also directed the original, narrated Sarfira. It turns out to be a scene-to-scene remake with elements that work in its favour.

One standout aspect of Sarfira is Akshay Kumar's stellar performance. When I watched Soorarai Pottru, I wondered who could play the lead in a Hindi remake; Akshay was the perfect choice. His portrayal is spot-on. Radhikka Madan also impresses in her role.

The supporting cast, including Seema Biswas, R. Sarathkumar, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, Anil Charanjeett, Prakash Belawadi, and Saurabh Goyal, deliver commendable performances. Suriya's cameo will surely bring a smile to your face!

The songs in Sarfira are decent but it's the background music that truly elevates the film.

Soorarai Pottru was initially made for theatres but ended up on OTT platforms. Now with Sarfira getting a theatrical release, it offers a big-screen experience you shouldn't miss. Sudha Kongara has successfully remade her own film. The last time a filmmaker impressed us by directing their own remake was Sandeep Reddy Vanga with Kabir Singh.

Despite having watched Soorarai Pottru, I found Sarfira equally entertaining and intriguing. This is one of the most positive aspects of a remake: enjoying it even after seeing the original.

Sarfira Review Final Verdict

Overall, Sarfira is a well-crafted remake. Even if you've seen Soorarai Pottru, you'll enjoy this version too—largely thanks to Akshay Kumar's performance. Catch this one at a theatre near you.
