Akshay Kumar Unveils The Story Behind His Name Change From Rajiv Bhatia

Akshay Kumar's Real Name: Akshay Kumar is a major Bollywood star, known for his impressive career. In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Akshay explained why he made this change.

During the interview, Akshay Kumar shared that his name change wasn't due to any advice from a pandit. Instead, it was connected to his debut film, Aaj (1987), where Kumar Gaurav played the lead role. He said, "Do you know what was Kumar Gaurav's name in the film? Akshay. That's how I got my name. Not many people know this. So, my real name is Rajiv, and during the shoot, I just casually asked what is the name of the hero in the film, they said Akshay, I told them, I want to keep my name as Akshay!"

Akshay further explained that his original name was similar to that of the then-prime minister. He said, "Rajiv is a good name and I think back then, Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister or something. So it was a great name but I changed it just aise hi (just like that). It wasn't like some pandit advised me to change my name! My father also asked me, what's wrong with you? But I told him the same, that the hero's name in my first film was this, so I will keep it!"

Currently, Akshay Kumar stars in Sarfira, which hit theatres last Friday. His upcoming projects include Singham Again, Jolly LLB 3, Khel Khel Mein, Sky Force, Welcome to the Jungle, Hera Pheri 3 and Shankara.

The actor's decision to change his name was spontaneous and not influenced by any astrological advice. The inspiration came from his debut film's lead character named Akshay. This decision puzzled even his father at first.
