Maidaan's First Week Box Office Collection Falls Short Against Shaitaan
Ajay Devgn, a prominent figure in Bollywood, has been the center of attention with two major releases in 2024, captivating audiences with his performances in "Shaitaan" and the recent sports biopic "Maidaan." Directed by Amit Sharma, "Maidaan" portrays the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, who played a crucial role in transforming football in India. Despite receiving positive reviews and evoking a sense of pride among viewers, "Maidaan" has faced challenges at the box office from day one.
The film opened with a collection of Rs 7.1 crore, including paid previews, and had a reasonable opening weekend. However, it struggled to maintain momentum in its first week, finding it difficult to cross the Rs 3 crore mark on any single day. In contrast, "Shaitaan," another release featuring Devgn, significantly outperformed "Maidaan," with over 190% higher collections in the first week, amassing Rs 79.75 crore compared to "Maidaan's" Rs 27.1 crore.

Adding to the competition, "Maidaan" faced off against the Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan," directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Despite the high stakes, "Maidaan" could not surpass the action-packed entertainer on its opening day. Ajay Devgn commented on the simultaneous release of both films, stating he does not view it as a clash but acknowledges the challenges posed by releasing two major films at the same time due to certain obligations.
The ongoing box office battle raises questions about "Maidaan's" ability to reach the coveted Rs 100 crore mark during its theatrical run. With "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan" already setting high expectations, it remains to be seen how "Maidaan" will fare in the coming weeks amidst stiff competition.
