Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's Cannes Outfit Sparks Social Media Backlash
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a name synonymous with beauty and talent in Bollywood, faced an unexpected backlash during her appearance at Cannes last year. Despite her status as a celebrated figure in the industry, the actress encountered a wave of trolling on social media. Critics and fans alike took to platforms like Instagram to express their disapproval of her choice of attire for the event, with some going as far as to compare her look to a "chicken shwarma". The incident unfolded as Aishwarya graced the red carpet at Cannes, accompanied by her daughter Aradhya.
The focal point of the criticism was Aishwarya's choice of a mermaid gown complemented by a large silver hood. Comments ranged from disappointment to outright mockery, with one user lamenting, "Worst possible looks! Could not expect it from Aishwarya." Others drew humorous comparisons, with remarks like "She looks exactly like my chicken roll delivered by Swiggy" and "Queen nahi ghost lagri." Another comment that stood out was, "Chicken shorma lag rahi hai aluminium foil me."

Despite the backlash, it's worth noting that Aishwarya's ensemble was a Sophie Couture Dress, selected for the premiere of 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' at Cannes 2023. The silver dress featured a prominent black bow at the front. Aishwarya's makeup choice included black winged eyeliner, bold red lipstick, and shimmery eyeshadow, complementing her straightened hair parted in the middle. She accessorized with two diamond rings and wore The Venus Sculpture, designed by Gaurav Gupta for the 75th Festival de Cannes.
The 77th Festival de Cannes is set to take place from May 14-25. This prestigious event will be hosted by French actress and comedian Camille Cottin, with 'Barbie' actress Greta Gerwig serving as the jury president. The opening movie for Cannes 2024 is 'The Second Act', directed by Quentin Dupieux. This film has been selected for screening out of competition, alongside George Miller's 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga'.
