During an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Banerjee revealed that he was dismissed from the film 'Agneepath', produced by Dharma Productions. At that time, he was working as a casting director. He shared, "Agneepath se humein nikaal diya tha. Agneepath ki casting hum log kar rahe the baad mein Jogi bhai aaye. Kyu nikal di kyuki woh casting unko pasand nahi aayi, Karan sir ko pasand nahi aayi. Hum log kuch zyada hi Anurag Kashyap-waale actors la rahe the jo unhe pasand nahi aya. Toh unhone bola, 'Nikal jao humari film se!' Hume laga career barbaad, khatam! Dharma se nikal gaye ab ho gaya! But thankfully bach gaye."

The actor's revelation about being removed from 'Agneepath' sparked significant online backlash against Karan Johar. However, on August 19, Banerjee addressed the controversy on Twitter (now X). He clarified that the situation had been misrepresented and explained that their dismissal was due to their inability to align with director Karan Malhotra's vision for the film.

Following his statement, netizens began criticising Karan Johar over the incident. In response, Banerjee took to social media to issue an official statement clarifying the matter. Banerjee further mentioned that despite this setback, he continued to work with Dharma Productions on several projects as a casting director. These included films like 'Ok Jaanu', 'Kalank', and 'Student Of The Year 2'. This collaboration indicates that there were no lingering issues between him and the production house.

The actor's clarification helped quell some of the negative reactions online and provided context to his earlier comments. It also highlighted his resilience and ability to move forward despite professional challenges.
