Abhay Verma On Replacing Alia Bhatt & Shraddha Kapoor In Munjya: 'No Competition'

Munjya, featuring Abhay Verma, Sharvari, and Mona Singh, has emerged as one of the year's major successes. The film has amassed approximately Rs. 62 crore in just 12 days. In a recent interview, Abhay disclosed that his character Bitto was initially written as a female role. The filmmakers later decided to change it to a male character. He also mentioned that Shraddha Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were initially considered for the role.

In an interaction with Filmibeat, Abhay was asked if he had received any audience reactions comparing him to Alia and Shraddha. He responded, "There can't be any competition; they are wonderful actors, so there can't be any comparison. They are very experienced, and I am inspired by Alia and Shraddha in various ways. So, there's no competition as such; it is just a fun thing that Bitto's character was initially written for a girl. After working on the script for 4-5 years, the director decided to change it into a boy, and the opportunity came to me."

He added, "So, that was just a jittery kind of feeling I expressed. It feels good to replace an actress because that has not happened before (laughs). So, it was a fun thing that I discussed and it got picked up."

While Shraddha and Alia would have undoubtedly excelled in Munjya, Abhay's performance has also been commendable.

Munjya marks the fourth instalment in Maddock Films' horror-comedy universe. Anticipation is now building for Stree 2, scheduled for release on 15th August 2024. The teaser for Stree 2 was recently attached to Munjya in theatres and has since leaked online, garnering positive reactions from viewers.
