Aamir Khan Highlights Laapataa Ladies' Oscar Aspirations And Its Impact On Indian Cinema

Aamir Khan, a well-known personality in Indian cinema, recently discussed the potential impact of his film, Laapataa Ladies, winning an Oscar. The film has been selected to represent India at the Oscars, sparking excitement among Indian film fans. Khan mentioned that winning the Best International Feature Film award would be a significant achievement for India, a goal the country has long pursued but not yet attained.

The selection of Laapataa Ladies as India's official Oscar entry has generated considerable buzz. In an interview with BBC News India, Khan highlighted the broader implications of winning such a prestigious award. Although he doesn't usually focus on competitions, he acknowledged that global recognition from an Oscar win would significantly boost interest in the film. This accolade would not only enhance the film's reputation but also attract a larger audience eager to discover what makes it unique.

Aamir Khan on Laapataa Ladies' Oscar Hopes

Khan emphasized the national pride associated with this potential win. He noted that only three Indian films—Mother India, Salaam Bombay, and Lagaan—have been nominated in the past without winning. While RRR won Best Original Song and The Elephant Whisperers secured Best Documentary Short, an Oscar for an Indian feature film remains elusive. Khan believes a win for Laapataa Ladies would spark nationwide celebrations, reflecting India's deep love for cinema.

"I would be really happy. It would create tremendous opportunity for the film to be seen by a lot more people because when a film wins an Oscar or Academy award, then people from around the world want to see what it's like. So it opens a huge window of opportunity for a larger audience for a film. More important than that, I think Indians are so film crazy and we have been dying to win an Academy Award for an Indian film which hasn't happened till now. So the country would go ballistic. They'll just go mad if we win. So just for the people of our country, I'd be very happy if we win the award," he added.

Looking forward, Laapataa Ladies is gaining attention not only for its Oscar bid but also for showcasing Indian talent globally. The Oscar 2025 shortlist announcement is eagerly anticipated on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, with high hopes for Laapataa Ladies' inclusion. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is engaged in upcoming projects like Sitaare Zameen Par with Darsheel Safary and Genelia Deshmukh and producing Lahore 1947 directed by Rajkumar Santoshi featuring Sunny Deol.

The anticipation surrounding Laapataa Ladies highlights its potential impact on both the film itself and India's movie industry as a whole. An Oscar win would mark a historic milestone for India, fulfilling a long-held aspiration and igniting national pride and joy. As audiences worldwide await the Oscars shortlist announcement, hopes are high for Laapataa Ladies to achieve recognition on cinema's grandest stage.
