A Fly On The Wall Documentary Premieres At Mumbai Film Festival 2024 Highlighting End-of-Life Choices

'A Fly On The Wall' is set to be showcased at the Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) 2024 after its debut at the 29th Busan International Film Festival. This documentary, directed by Nilesh Maniyar and Shonali Bose, will feature in the Focus South Asia section from October 19 to 24. This selection highlights its journey from an international stage to a significant local event.

The film's inclusion in the Focus South Asia section underscores its exploration of themes like love, loss, and choice in death. Directors Maniyar and Bose offer a narrative about their friend Chika Kapadia's physician-assisted suicide. This intimate portrayal delves into human connections and end-of-life decisions, making its Mumbai screening especially meaningful for the filmmakers.

Maniyar expressed his thoughts on this achievement: "This film was born out of love for Chika, and we wanted to give people a story that is both deeply personal and universally relevant. Our hope is that 'A Fly On The Wall' will open up necessary discussions around the difficult subject of physician-assisted suicide and provide a lens into how dignity and choice are navigated in the final moments of life. We are honoured to be part of the Focus South Asia section at MAMI, especially since it is our home city." His words reflect the documentary's aim to encourage dialogue on a sensitive topic while honouring their friend's life.

Bose also shared her excitement about the Indian premiere at MAMI, highlighting its significance for her career and personal connection to Mumbai. "I am thrilled to have the Indian premiere of this deeply personal film of ours at MAMI. The festival is special for me as it screened my very first film Amu in 2005. Chika was born and brought up in Mumbai and that makes it even more meaningful to screen in the home city of all three of us," she stated.

'A Fly On The Wall' marks Maniyar and Bose's third feature-length collaboration after 'The Sky Is Pink' and 'Margarita with a Straw'. Their works consistently engage audiences with empathetic storytelling on challenging themes. The 2024 Mumbai Film Festival celebrates South Asian cinema's richness, providing an apt platform for this documentary's nuanced exploration of life's beauty amid death's complexities.

This documentary stands as a testament to storytelling that bridges personal narratives with universal themes. Its selection for MAMI not only highlights cinematic excellence but also promises important conversations about choices and dignity at life's end. As audiences prepare for this moving documentary, its journey from Busan exemplifies its global relevance and local resonance.
