Zverev Triumphs Over De Minaur To Arrange Ruud Showdown In French Open Semis
Alexander Zverev has secured his place in the French Open semi-finals for the fourth consecutive year after overcoming Alex de Minaur on Wednesday. The world number four will face Casper Ruud, who advanced with a bye following Novak Djokovic's injury withdrawal. Zverev triumphed 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
De Minaur had previously defeated Daniil Medvedev to reach his first Roland-Garros quarter-final. However, his serving struggles and Zverev's resilience proved to be his undoing. Both players exchanged breaks during an engaging start in Paris, but De Minaur's double fault handed Zverev a 4-3 advantage, allowing him to hold serve and take the first set.

The Australian managed a crucial break midway through the second set. However, Zverev, who received a time violation warning from the umpire for taking too long over his serve, saved a set point to keep his hopes alive. Zverev then fought back from 4-0 and 5-1 down in the tie-breaker to clinch a 2-0 lead in the match.
Despite failing to level in the tie-break defeat, De Minaur broke Zverev late in the third set. However, Zverev responded immediately to secure a hard-fought win in just under three hours.

Zverev extended his winning streak to 11 matches with this victory. This run includes his sixth ATP Masters 1000 title in Rome two weeks before the start of this major. The German is now the 11th man of the Open Era to reach four consecutive semi-finals at the French Open.
Casper Ruud, who awaits Zverev in the semi-finals, will be well-rested after advancing due to Djokovic's injury. Meanwhile, De Minaur misses out on becoming the first Australian man since Pat Rafter in 1997 to make the last four on Parisian clay.
