Tsitsipas Sets Up Thrilling Swiss Open Semi-Final With Berrettini
Stefanos Tsitsipas is set to face Matteo Berrettini in the Swiss Open semi-finals after defeating Fabio Fognini in straight sets on Friday. The Greek player, making his debut in Gstaad, secured a 6-4, 6-3 win over the Italian in just 66 minutes on Roy Emerson Court.
Despite losing an early break in the first set, Tsitsipas managed to clinch a crucial break at 5-4 to take the lead. In the second set, he again saw an early break nullified but eventually earned another to comfortably advance to the semi-finals. "My returns worked pretty well, I was very consistent with them," Tsitsipas said. "I insisted on staying back throughout the match and giving it a bit of a loop, trying to get the angles from the very beginning. It worked pretty well."

Tsitsipas expressed satisfaction with his serving towards the end of the match. "I'm happy with how I started serving towards the end of the match. In the beginning, I was still trying to figure out how I was going to open up the court and create opportunities on my serve. It took me a while to figure out. I unlocked the code towards the end," he added.
Awaiting Tsitsipas in the semi-finals is Matteo Berrettini, who defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-2). The former Wimbledon finalist is aiming for his second clay-court title this season after winning in Marrakech and finishing as runner-up in Stuttgart last month.
The reigning Monte-Carlo Masters champion Tsitsipas has now reached his fourth ATP semi-final of this season, with three of those coming on clay courts. This victory also marks his fifth consecutive win against Fognini.
Tsitsipas boasts an impressive record against Italian opponents on clay, holding a 14-1 record. His only loss came against Jannik Sinner in Rome four years ago.
