Iga Swiatek Secures Her Third Straight French Open Victory Against Jasmine Paolini
Iga Swiatek clinched her third consecutive French Open title with a commanding straight-sets victory over Jasmine Paolini on Saturday. The world number one extended her winning streak by triumphing 6-2, 6-1 in just one hour and eight minutes on court Philippe-Chatrier. Paolini, in her first Grand Slam final, initially caused some nerves by securing an early break, but Swiatek quickly regained focus.
Swiatek won every game in the first set from that point, using her power to force Paolini to cover more ground. As errors crept into Paolini's game, Swiatek capitalised and took the lead. In the second set, Swiatek elevated her performance further, leaving the Italian struggling to respond. The 23-year-old secured another double break to dominate the first five games.

Paolini attempted to avoid a bagel scoreline in her last chance to stay in the match, but Swiatek needed just one more game to secure her fifth Grand Slam title.
Swiatek has been matching records consistently this year, and her French Open victory added to her impressive achievements. She now holds four titles at Roland Garros and is the second women's player to win three consecutively since Justine Henin (2005-2007). She is also the youngest since Monica Seles (1990-1992).
Swiatek is only the second women's player to win all five of her Grand Slam finals during the Open Era, following Seles. Additionally, she is the first player to win three consecutive titles at a single Grand Slam since Serena Williams at the US Open (2012-2014).
Before adding this Grand Slam title, Swiatek had already won at the Qatar Open, Indian Wells, Madrid Open, and Italian Open in 2024. She entered Saturday's match as the favourite and looked unstoppable.
Paolini, labelled as a late-bloomer, is the third player in the last decade to reach her first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros after turning 28. She joins Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (2021) and Lucie Safarova (2015) in this achievement. Facing Swiatek was always going to be challenging for Paolini.
Despite pulling off a significant upset against Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals and starting strong against Swiatek, Paolini struggled to match her opponent's aggression. This year has seen Paolini undergo significant changes; she entered 2024 with a losing record of 78-87 and one career title.
Since January, she has improved to 22-10 with one trophy and looks forward to the French Open doubles final on Sunday with partner Sara Errani. Paolini is confirmed to move into the top 10 of the rankings after this tournament.
