Iga Swiatek Dominates Petra Martic To Advance To Wimbledon Third Round
Iga Swiatek confirmed her position as the favourite in the women's draw at Wimbledon by defeating Petra Martic in straight sets on Thursday, advancing to the third round. The world number one, who has never progressed past the quarter-finals at SW19, secured a 6-4, 6-3 victory in one hour and 20 minutes on Centre Court.
Swiatek has now won 21 consecutive matches as world number one, marking the longest streak by any player on the WTA Tour since Serena Williams achieved a similar run between the 2014 WTA Finals and the 2015 Madrid Open. This impressive feat underscores Swiatek's dominance in women's tennis.

Martic managed to hold her own until the 10th game of the first set. However, Swiatek converted her first break point opportunity and overcame significant pressure during several of her service games. The second set mirrored this pattern, with Swiatek breaking Martic's serve eight games in.
Swiatek has consistently reached at least the round of 32 in 18 consecutive grand slams. In the Open Era, only Martina Navratilova (35), Conchita Martinez (30), Arantxa Sanchez Vicario (25), and Steffi Graf (19) have achieved more consecutive appearances at this stage in major tournaments.
The final game saw Swiatek serve out to love, culminating with a powerful forehand winner that set up three match points. A strong serve on the first match point left world number 79 Martic with no chance to respond.
"21 - Iga Swiatek has become the first player to win more than 20 consecutive matches as World No. 1 since Serena Williams between the WTA Finals 2014 and Madrid 2015. Reigning."

This victory not only highlights Swiatek's current form but also places her among some of tennis's greatest players regarding consistent performance at grand slams.
Swiatek's ability to maintain composure under pressure and convert crucial points has been key to her success. Her performance against Martic is a testament to her growing confidence and skill on grass courts.
As she progresses further into Wimbledon, all eyes will be on Swiatek to see if she can continue this remarkable run and perhaps go beyond her previous best at SW19.
