Raducanu Opts Out Of Olympics; Murray Set For Paris 2024
Emma Raducanu has declined the opportunity to compete at the 2024 Olympics for Great Britain, despite being offered a wildcard spot by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The 2021 US Open champion is focusing on her recovery from wrist and ankle surgeries, which have impacted her ranking and ability to automatically qualify for the Games.
Two-time Olympic gold medallist Andy Murray, however, has accepted his wildcard spot and will compete in what could be his final tournament. Murray, who won gold in London 2012 and Rio 2016, will join debutants Jack Draper, Cam Norrie, and Dan Evans in representing Team GB. Katie Boulter is also set to make her Olympic debut as the only British woman to qualify by ranking.

Raducanu's decision comes after a challenging year marked by injuries that forced her to miss significant tournaments, including the French Open. The courts at Roland Garros, where the French Open is held, will also host the Olympic tennis events. Raducanu opted out of these competitions to ensure her fitness for the grass-court season.
Iain Bates, head of GB's Olympic tennis team, commented on Raducanu's choice: "I have had various conversations with Emma over the last couple of weeks. It's clear how much being part of a British team at an Olympics would mean to her. However, she feels this isn't the right timing for her this summer. She's hopefully got many Olympics ahead of her. I'm very comfortable with the decision that she's made."
Murray's participation marks his fifth appearance at the Olympic Games. His inclusion alongside Draper, Norrie, and Evans brings a mix of experience and fresh talent to Team GB's lineup. The ITF will announce the full entry list for Paris 2024 on July 4.
As Raducanu continues her comeback journey, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how she progresses in the upcoming seasons. Meanwhile, Murray's potential final bow at the Olympics adds a layer of significance to his storied career.
