'Best Day Of My Life': Krejcikova Triumphs With Maiden Wimbledon Title
Barbora Krejcikova described her Wimbledon victory as the pinnacle of her life, celebrating an unexpected win. The Czech player secured her first title at the All England Club with a challenging 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win over Jasmine Paolini in the final on Saturday. This triumph marked Krejcikova's second grand slam title, following her 2021 French Open win, making her the seventh player to claim their first women's singles titles at both events.
Krejcikova faced significant hurdles to reach the final, defeating Danielle Collins, Jelena Ostapenko, and Elena Rybakina. Reflecting on her journey, she expressed disbelief at her achievement. "I don't have any words right now; it's just unbelievable. It's definitely the best day of my tennis career and also the best day of my life," said Krejcikova. She added that it was hard to articulate her feelings and praised Paolini for a tough match.

The season had not started well for Krejcikova, making her Wimbledon victory even more remarkable. "I didn't really have a good beginning to the season. It's unbelievable I'm stood here now, and I've won Wimbledon. I have no idea [how it happened]," she admitted.
After defeating Rybakina in the semi-final, Krejcikova honoured Jana Novotna, who died from ovarian cancer in 2017 at age 49. She met Novotna a decade ago and has since mirrored her mentor's success. "I think that day, knocking on her door, it changed my life," Krejcikova said emotionally. She recalled how Novotna encouraged her to pursue a professional career when she was uncertain about continuing in tennis or focusing on education.
Novotna's belief in Krejcikova's potential was pivotal. Before passing away, Novotna told Krejcikova she could win a grand slam title. Krejcikova realised this dream in Paris in 2021 and never imagined winning the same trophy as Novotna did in 1998.
"I would like to congratulate Jasmine and her team," Krejcikova continued. "She had a great two weeks; it was a great final, and we were fighting for every point." She acknowledged that many doubted she would reach the final or win Wimbledon.
