Jannik Sinner Dominates Eubanks To Secure Spot In French Open Second Round

Jannik Sinner commenced his French Open campaign with a decisive straight-sets victory over Christopher Eubanks. The second seed needed just over two hours to secure a 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 win on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. The reigning Australian Open champion is among the favourites at Roland Garros this year, having also claimed titles in Rotterdam and Miami in 2024.

The Italian had not competed since withdrawing from the Madrid Open earlier this month due to a hip injury. Despite this, he broke Eubanks, who reached last year's Wimbledon quarter-finals, three times to take the opening set. Sinner, who will become the first Italian to top the ATP rankings if he reaches the final, broke early again in the next two sets to set up a second-round match with veteran Richard Gasquet.

Sinner Wins at French Open

In the last 30 years, only four players have won their first eight men's singles major matches of the season before turning 23: Roger Federer (2004), Rafael Nadal (2006 and 2009), Novak Djokovic (2008), and Jannik Sinner (2024). This achievement places Sinner in elite company, highlighting his potential to make a significant impact at Roland Garros.

Sinner, 22, has now won 11 of his 12 matches at Roland Garros against players ranked outside the top 10. His only defeat in such matches came against world number 79 Daniel Altmeier in last year's second round. This record underscores Sinner's consistency and ability to perform well against lower-ranked opponents.

As Sinner progresses through the tournament, his performance will be closely watched by tennis enthusiasts and analysts alike. His next challenge against Richard Gasquet will provide further insights into his form and readiness to contend for the title.

The French Open continues to be a platform where emerging talents like Sinner can showcase their skills and compete against the best in the sport. With his recent victories and strong start at Roland Garros, Sinner is poised to make a significant impact this season.
