Jack Draper Triumphs Over Matteo Berrettini For First ATP Tour Title In Stuttgart

Jack Draper secured his first ATP Tour title by overcoming Matteo Berrettini in the BOSS Open final in Stuttgart. This victory also marks Draper's ascent to becoming the British number one for the first time on Monday.

Draper had already ensured his rise to Britain's top player in the ATP rankings by reaching the final match in Germany. He achieved this with consecutive wins over Americans Francis Tiafoe and Brandon Nakashima. Former Wimbledon runner-up Berrettini took the first set in just 33 minutes, but Draper fought back in a nearly hour-long second set as the momentum shifted.

Despite failing to convert two set points at 5-4 and the first of two in the tiebreak, Draper levelled the match. A break in the seventh game of the final set was enough for Draper to secure a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory, serving a huge ace—his 12th of the contest—on match point.

Draper will break into the world's top 30 after claiming his maiden title in his third ATP final. He had previously lost to Adrian Mannarino at last year's Sofia Open and Jiri Lehecka at January's Adelaide Open. At 22 years and 269 days old, Draper will become his country's top male player, making him the youngest British number one since Andy Murray in November 2009.
