Djokovic Prioritizes Wimbledon Return Over Knee Injury Concerns

Novak Djokovic made a successful comeback at Wimbledon, where the 24-time major champion stated he would not have risked his knee injury for any other tournament. The 37-year-old comfortably defeated Vit Kopriva 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 under the Centre Court roof in Tuesday's first-round match. This win comes just weeks after Djokovic underwent knee surgery following his withdrawal from the French Open.

Djokovic, aiming to match Roger Federer's record of eight titles at Wimbledon, indicated that he would not have played through the pain for any other ATP event. "Everything that I could do, I have done over the last three weeks along with my team to be able to play here for you today," Djokovic said during his on-court interview. "I think if it was for any other tournament I probably would not have risked it, would not have rushed as much but I just love Wimbledon, love coming back here."

Djokovic's Wimbledon Comeback

Despite wearing protective support on his right leg, Djokovic showed no signs of struggle in his dominant victory over the Czech qualifier. His next challenge will be a second-round match against either British wildcard Jacob Fearnley or Spanish qualifier Alejandro Moro Canas. This will mark Djokovic's 19th appearance in the second round at Wimbledon, tying Federer's record for the most such appearances in men's singles during the Open Era.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion emphasized that his focus remains on performance rather than his knee injury as he heads into the next round. "I tried to really focus on the game and not think about the knee too much," Djokovic added.

Djokovic has now won all 19 of his first-round matches at Wimbledon, showcasing his consistent performance at this prestigious event. His dedication and love for Wimbledon are evident as he continues to push through challenges to compete at his favourite tournament.

This victory is particularly significant given Djokovic's recent knee surgery and subsequent recovery efforts. His commitment to returning to form and competing at Wimbledon highlights his determination and passion for tennis.

As Djokovic progresses in the tournament, fans eagerly anticipate whether he can secure an eighth title and further cement his legacy at Wimbledon. The upcoming matches will undoubtedly test both his skill and resilience.

The Serbian star's journey continues as he prepares for more challenging rounds ahead. With each match, Djokovic aims to demonstrate why he remains one of tennis's greatest players.
