British Tennis Pro Jodie Burrage Sidelined For Months Following Wrist Surgery
Jodie Burrage, the British number two tennis player, faces a challenging period ahead as she will be sidelined for several months following wrist surgery. The 24-year-old athlete shared this update with her followers on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of herself in a hospital bed, her left arm supported by a sling. This development comes after Burrage experienced a setback during a practice session in San Diego, where she felt a sudden pop in her left wrist, leading to a first-round qualifying loss.
Burrage's decision to undergo surgery was informed by consultations with multiple doctors and surgeons, who collectively agreed that this was the most viable course of action. Despite this being her fourth surgery, Burrage remains optimistic about her recovery, buoyed by the successful completion of the procedure and the support of her team and fans. "Making the decision to get my 4th surgery was brutal—accepting it will take time. But smiling here because everything went well yesterday (and I was high on drugs), and the recovery process can start," Burrage shared on Instagram.

The timing of this injury could not have been more unfortunate for Burrage, who had just begun to make significant strides in her career. After overcoming repeated ankle issues, she broke into the top 100 rankings last year, achieving a career-high ranking of 85th. Currently ranked 86th, Burrage's absence from the upcoming tournaments, including the grass-court season where she previously excelled, is expected to impact her standings significantly. Last year, she reached the final of the WTA Tour event in Nottingham, showcasing her potential on grass courts.
This setback is a significant blow to Burrage's momentum and aspirations for the current season. However, her positive outlook and determination to recover fully suggest that she is ready to face the challenges ahead. As she begins her recovery journey, Burrage's focus will be on returning to full fitness and reclaiming her place among the top competitors in women's tennis.
