Andy Murray Strives For Fitness Ahead Of Wimbledon For Career Closure
Andy Murray is seeking closure at Wimbledon as he strives to be fit for his opening match. The British tennis player plans to retire later this year, with Wimbledon or the Olympics being potential stages for his farewell. However, a back injury forced him to withdraw from the Queen's Club Championships in the second round earlier this month, leading to surgery.
Murray's Wimbledon campaign is set to begin on Tuesday against Tomas Machac. Yet, he remains undecided about competing in the men's singles event at the All England Club. "I don't think there's one thing that I'm hoping for. When it comes to the end, I don't know, maybe a bit of closure," said the two-time Wimbledon winner. "I just want the opportunity to play one more time out there, hopefully on Centre Court, and feel that buzz."

On Saturday, Murray managed to practice on Wimbledon's courts for the first time since his injury. After additional training on Sunday, he admitted he would wait until the last possible moment to decide on his participation. "It went pretty well," Murray said after Sunday's training session. "But I still don't have 100% feeling and sensation in my leg. It's getting better every single day."
Murray is also scheduled to play doubles alongside his older brother Jamie. However, his chances of competing in both singles and doubles are slim due to his ongoing recovery. He expressed a desire to give himself every chance possible to compete.
The tennis star plans further physical testing on Monday morning before making a final decision about his participation. "I'm going to play another set again [on Monday]. I'm doing some physical testing in the morning to see how far off I am from a physical perspective," Murray explained. "Then I will probably make a decision after that."
Last year, Murray did not plan for it to be his final year on tour and intended to return and play again. This year, however, he has no such plans and is focused on making the most of what could be his last appearance at Wimbledon.
"One more sleep #Wimbledon," tweeted Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) on June 30, 2024.
Murray's determination and love for tennis are evident as he navigates this challenging period in his career. His fans eagerly await his decision and hope to see him grace Centre Court once more.
