Alcaraz Confident In Securing Wimbledon Title And Cheering For Spain At Euro 2024

Carlos Alcaraz is optimistic about Spain's prospects on Sunday as he gears up to defend his Wimbledon title. Alcaraz, who secured his place in the Wimbledon singles finals for the second time after Rafael Nadal, triumphed with a 6-7 (1-7) 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory on Centre Court. His match against Novak Djokovic will occur just hours before Spain faces England in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin.

"I feel like I am not new anymore. I know how I feel before the final; I have been in this position before - I will try to do the things that I didn't do last year and be better," Alcaraz shared with Annabel Croft during his post-match interview. "I will also try the things that went well - it will be a good day for Spanish people as well!"

Alcaraz Targets Double Joy for Spain

Alcaraz humorously referenced the European Championship final, saying, "I didn't say Spain was going to win." The world number three's journey to a fourth grand slam title was challenging, coming from a set down to edge out Medvedev in a thrilling match.

The game saw nine break points converted, with Alcaraz taking six and Medvedev three. Alcaraz acknowledged the difficulties he encountered at SW19. "I tried to play long rallies and tried to play to the net as much as I can. I tried to not play his game," he said.

"There were a few points that were really long rallies, but I tried to put my own game [on the match]. It was difficult to break the wall! Different conditions, but happy with my performance today," Alcaraz added. He noted Medvedev's dominance and excellent serves, which made it tough for him.

The winning moment was captured by Wimbledon’s official Twitter account: "Just listen to @carlosalcaraz and the Centre Court crowd erupt #Wimbledon" (@Wimbledon) July 12, 2024.

As Alcaraz prepares for his next challenge, he remains focused on improving his performance and making it a memorable day for Spain. His determination and experience will be crucial as he aims for another grand slam victory.

With both Wimbledon and Euro 2024 finals happening on the same day, Spanish fans have much to look forward to. Alcaraz's confidence and humour add an extra layer of excitement as they anticipate a potentially historic day for Spanish sports.
