Alcaraz Dominates Vukic To Progress To Wimbledon's Third Round
Carlos Alcaraz continued his Wimbledon title defence by defeating Aleksandar Vukic in the second round. Despite a shaky start, the Spaniard regained his form to win in straight sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, 6-2. Alcaraz faced two breaks of serve late in the first set but managed to break back and take the set in a tie-break.After securing the first set, Alcaraz dominated the rest of the match, dropping only four more games. His powerful play left Vukic struggling to keep up. This victory marks Alcaraz's entry into the third round for the third consecutive year at Wimbledon. He will next face Frances Tiafoe. In their previous encounter in 2020, Vukic had defeated a then-17-year-old Alcaraz during Roland Garros qualifying. However, this time around on grass, Alcaraz proved to be a much tougher opponent. The win extends his current winning streak at Wimbledon to nine matches.Alcaraz's triumph on Wednesday also marked his 75th career ATP match win against opponents ranked outside the top 50. This year alone, he has an impressive record of 13-1 against such players. The 21-year-old continues to showcase his fine form as he aims for another Wimbledon title."Defending champ in the mood @carlosalcaraz knocks out Vukic 7-6(5) 6-2 6-2," tweeted ATP Tour (@atptour) on July 3, 2024.
