Carlos Alcaraz Secures Swift Victory To Reach Second Round In Paris Olympics

Carlos Alcaraz swiftly advanced to the second round of the singles tournament at the Paris Olympic Games, defeating Lebanon's Hady Habib 6-3, 6-1. The Spaniard, who recently won his fourth grand slam title at Wimbledon, needed just one hour and 12 minutes to overcome Habib, ranked 275th by the ATP.

Alcaraz faced a break point in the first game but quickly turned the pressure on Habib, securing an early break to control the opening set. Habib managed only three winners in the first set while committing 16 unforced errors. Alcaraz served confidently, dropping just one point over six games on his serve.

In the second set, Alcaraz broke Habib's serve in the first game and maintained his dominance throughout. He will next face either Britain's Cameron Norrie or the Netherlands' Tallon Griekspoor in the second round. Their match was delayed due to rain affecting play on the outside courts.

Returning to Paris after last month's French Open victory, Alcaraz showcased his prowess on clay courts with a record of 12-3 for the year. On Saturday, he hit 26 winners compared to Habib's five and excelled at the net, winning 13 out of 16 points (81%) when approaching.

Later on Sunday, Alcaraz will team up with Rafael Nadal in doubles against Argentina's Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. This partnership is highly anticipated as both players bring significant experience and skill to the court.

The ATP Tour tweeted about Alcaraz's victory: "VAMOS @carlosalcaraz defeats Habib 6-3 6-1 to advance in #Paris2024 #Olympics #tennis" along with a video clip of his performance.
