Moscow International Game Week: Witness the CS2 Finals and India's Rising Gaming Influence
The Moscow Cyber Games 2026 Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) finals are set to take place on October 31 and November 1, featuring a showdown between four teams: HOTU, 1w, 5 Stars Esports and The Huns Esports. These matches serve as a highlight of the second Moscow International Game Week, an event that will also see Indian industry representatives and studios showcasing their projects and networking with potential collaborators. Viewers can catch the action live on the event website.
The tournament drew a massive field of 956 teams, comprising 840 from Europe and 116 from Asia. Following the open qualifiers, which took place between August 12 and 18, 2026, the competition moved to a closed Swiss-system stage from August 22 to September 1, involving 16 European and eight Asian squads. The final four contenders include HOTU, featuring a roster from Russia and Kazakhstan; the Russian squad 1w; and the Mongolian teams 5 Stars Esports and The Huns Esports.
As an official part of the Valve Regional Standings (VRS), the tournament results will directly influence invitations for future international CS2 events and Majors. Since the finals occur at the conclusion of the current ranking cycle, this represents a critical chance for Russian teams to secure points and improve their standing in the global rankings. India’s presence at Moscow International Game Week will be highlighted by a dedicated group stand featuring BUZZEDMEN STUDIO, ABRACA DABRA SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS and Nilee Games. The delegation includes notable figures such as Dev Mukesh, founder of Banzan, and Vijay Rakshe, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of TRB Funtooss Pvt Ltd. These companies specialize in areas ranging from animation and comics to educational content and gaming. For these Indian firms, the event serves as a strategic platform to showcase their portfolios, gain insights into the Russian gaming landscape, and build relationships with international partners. With a player base of 92 million, Russia currently holds the 12th position globally in terms of consumer spending on video games. Moscow International Game Week is set to host a diverse gathering of publishers, developers and investors representing 20 countries. The inaugural Moscow International Game Week in 2025 featured Minh Le, a co-creator of Counter-Strike, as a headliner. Reflecting on the local development scene, he noted: "Back in the 90s, I played a huge number of flight simulators, and in the West they are made very rarely. It’s great to see that Russian developers continue to evolve this genre and build games based on it — they have an excellent understanding of how it works." This year’s event will welcome Ned Luke, the actor known for his portrayal of Michael De Santa in GTA V. Luke brought the character to life through his voice, facial expressions and physical movements, even performing stunts in a motion-capture suit. He reprised the role in 2025, providing the voice for Michael in an update for GTA Online.
