How Printzy is Solving the Campus Printing Crisis in Hyderabad

Scan. Print. Done: How Manohar Makarla Is Automating Campus Printing Across Hyderabad with Printzy. Across Indian colleges, a familiar frustration persists: the sluggish, crowded queue at the campus print shop. From last-minute assignment submissions and lab records to hall tickets, students are frequently held hostage by limited operating hours, malfunctioning equipment, and the inefficiencies of manual service.

When Manohar Makarla began working to reduce administrative friction at Dhanekula Institute of Engineering, his goal wasn't to launch a printing business. However, while building software to improve communication between students and the college, one grievance stood out above the rest: the daily struggle of getting physical documents printed. That single insight ignited a project that is currently reshaping how physical services are delivered on campuses throughout India.

Printzy: 24/7 Automated Printing for Students

The First Fix, and the Human Bottleneck

Manohar’s first attempt to address the campus printing bottleneck was straightforward: create a print delivery service. Students would upload their files via smartphone, and a dedicated staff member would handle the printing and delivery. Initially, the concept seemed sound, and adoption rates rose quickly. Yet, as volume increased, a critical weakness became apparent.

"The more we grew, the heavier our operations became," recalls Manohar. "Every additional student meant more manual labor, more human handling, and more logistical friction. A model built around a person in the loop gets harder to run precisely when it starts succeeding." That realization served as the pivotal moment. The issue wasn't the printing process itself, but rather the necessity of having an operator involved in every transaction.

The Pivot: From Service Delivery to Self-Service Infrastructure

Realizing that relying on human labor was not a scalable solution, Manohar abandoned the original delivery model and redesigned the system from scratch. This led to the creation of Printzy: a fully automated, self-service kiosk network engineered for high-traffic areas such as public spaces and university campuses.

Printzy eliminates the need for human intervention through a streamlined, 3-step digital process:

  • Upload: Students scan a QR code to send files directly from their phones, eliminating the need for app downloads.
  • Pay: Instant payment via UPI.
  • Collect: Documents are printed and released immediately on-site via a unique QR code or OTP.

By functioning 24/7 without the need for on-site staff, Printzy has transformed document printing from an awkward service into a piece of automated digital infrastructure.

Proven on Campus

Printzy kiosks are currently active in colleges across Hyderabad, having already processed over 59,000 sheets. To expand the footprint of Printzy across India, the company is launching franchise partnerships, offering opportunities for college partners, site owners, and local entrepreneurs.

The Campus Operating System of Tomorrow

For Manohar, these print kiosks represent only the starting point.

"Printzy is our entry point," Manohar explains. "It's the first layer in building an everyday student utility platform, moving toward a comprehensive campus operating system. But every expansion traces back to the primary lesson of our first version: real problems aren't solved by adding people to a workflow, they are solved by removing the need for one."
