UAEU Soars 100 Spots in THE Impact Rankings 2025, Now Among Top 200 Globally

The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has made a significant leap in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for 2025, climbing 100 places to secure a spot within the top 101–200 universities worldwide.

This advancement highlights UAEU's role as a leading institution in promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its initiatives in research, education, and community outreach. The recognition underscores the university's influence on a global scale, demonstrating its commitment to fostering a sustainable and inclusive future.

In a significant stride towards sustainability and academic excellence, UAEU has expanded its focus to encompass 12 SDGs this year, marking an increase from 11 the previous year. This expansion includes a new emphasis on SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.

Impressively, UAEU has achieved global recognition in several specific SDGs, notably securing positions within the top 50 for SDG 4: Quality Education (16th) and SDG 2: Zero Hunger (41st). The university's efforts have also been acknowledged in SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals (84th) and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities (99th), reflecting its impactful contributions both regionally and worldwide.

Professor Mohsen Sherif, Provost of UAEU and Chair of the UAEU Sustainability Committee, said, "This remarkable progress in the 2025 THE Impact Rankings reflects UAEU's sustained efforts in integrating the SDGs into every facet of our academic, research, and outreach missions. Our strong performance across 12 SDGs — particularly in education, hunger, innovation, and equity — is a testament to the university's role in shaping a more sustainable and inclusive future. UAEU is proud to serve as a hub for climate-conscious innovation, regional capacity building, and global partnerships."

To further its commitment to sustainability and climate action, UAEU has introduced a postdoctoral fellowship program aimed at addressing climate change. This initiative seeks to attract international researchers focused on decarbonization, climate resilience, food-water-energy nexus, and policy innovation. The programme aligns with the UAE's national climate objectives and UAEU's vision to become a leader in scientific research and sustainability efforts, especially in the lead-up to COP28.

Moreover, UAEU has collaborated with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the African Women Empowerment Program. This initiative aims to empower female scholars and professionals across Africa by providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to tackle SDG challenges through science, education, and leadership. This partnership underscores UAEU's commitment to fostering inclusive growth and strengthening international cooperation.

UAEU's ascent in the global rankings and its strategic initiatives underscore its dedication to advancing research, innovation, and partnerships. The university's efforts contribute significantly to achieving lasting impacts, not only within the UAE but also across the region and globally. This trajectory reaffirms UAEU's status as a national institution committed to leading the way in sustainability and education.
