Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Sets New Standard With 2024 Open Bouldering Championship

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD) recently hosted the Open Bouldering Championship 2024, setting a new benchmark for climbing competitions in the Middle East. The event, held in the university's Sports Hall, witnessed an unprecedented gathering of 196 climbers from 39 different countries, indicating a surge in the sport's popularity across the region.

This year's championship featured seven distinct categories, catering to a wide range of participants. The competition was fierce, and the climbers vied for a share of the AED 100,000 in cash and gift prizes. The categories included open competitions for men and women, specific brackets for Middle East competitors, divisions for SUAD students and staff, as well as youth, kids, people of determination, and veterans categories.

Alexandre Blaise, the Head of Student Experience Division at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, expressed his satisfaction with the event's outcome. He highlighted the championship's role in enhancing student experiences through promoting teamwork and personal achievement. "The event provided a platform for climbers to showcase their skills and push themselves to new heights, while also promoting a sense of community and shared passion," Blaise remarked.

Magdalena Nowak, a Sports Lecturer at SUAD and the event organizer, shared her enthusiasm about the climbing community's growth and dedication. "We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm and dedication of the climbing community in the region," Nowak stated. She also extended her gratitude towards the event's sponsors and partners for their support, which was crucial in making the championship a success.

The championship was backed by prominent organizations and brands, including the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Petzl, The North Face, Redbull, reSTART wellness, Maison Athlē, Selena Climbing Store, Sens Food, Explore Climbing, and The Sorority. Their support underscores the growing interest and investment in climbing and outdoor sports in the Middle East.
