Saudi Arabia Launches New Educational Visa Scheme To Woo Foreign Students

Saudi Arabia has introduced an educational visa program aimed at welcoming academics and students from across the globe. This initiative, part of the Kingdom's broader efforts to boost its educational sector, was unveiled in conjunction with the Human Capacity Initiative conference in Riyadh.

The announcement saw the participation of Minister of Education Yousef Al Benyan, who highlighted the programme's role in streamlining the admission and visa process for international students. Developed through a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this programme aims to simplify access to Saudi Arabia's educational opportunities for prospective students worldwide.

Simplifying International Student Admissions

The 'Study in Saudi Arabia' platform has been designed to ease the admissions process for overseas students. It not only provides comprehensive listings of academic programmes offered by recognised Saudi universities but also guides students through the visa application process after they secure university admission.

The platform offers a wealth of information on both short and long-term study opportunities, along with academic and research programs, thereby acting as a one-stop solution for international students aiming to pursue their education in the Kingdom.

Contributing To Global Education

According to data shared on the 'Study in Saudi Arabia' platform, the Kingdom's universities have become a melting pot of cultures and nationalities, with teaching staff and students hailing from over 170 countries. Furthermore, the platform reveals that the Kingdom has welcomed more than 100,000 international graduates to date, reinforcing its commitment to international education.

The distribution of international students across various levels of study in Saudi universities is as follows:

Level of StudyPercentage of International Students
Bachelor's Degree80%
Master's and Ph.D12%
Diploma and Higher Diploma8%

This strategic initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia's vision to foster a robust higher education system that not only attracts international talent but also contributes significantly to global academic and research efforts. By simplifying the visa process and providing a streamlined platform for admissions, Saudi Arabia is set to become an increasingly attractive destination for students and academics from around the world.

Saudi Arabia Launches National Curriculum Center

Saudi Arabia also announced the establishment of the National Curriculum Center during the Human Capabilities Initiative (HCI) conference in Riyadh. The centre is set to operate as an independent entity, following approval from the Council of Ministers, aimed at integrating the roles of various government sectors with national objectives through educational curricula.

The newly launched centre is designed to refine the curriculum system's governance. This involves incorporating sectors such as culture, sports, and human rights into the decision-making process. A primary goal of the centre is to forge partnerships with globally recognised expertise houses. This approach intends to align scientific research methodologies with the aspirations of the new generations, leveraging digital transformation tools and a focus on skills development, thus preparing citizens for global competence.

The centre's operational framework will be centred around defining the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders involved in curriculum development and updates. It aims for a synergistic alignment between general education and post-general education curricula, ensuring they meet the immediate and future market demands. Additionally, the centre is committed to adapting to ongoing changes and advancements through comprehensive development and regular curriculum updates.
