RAK Ruler Discusses Educational Investments At Sun Yat-sen University In China

During a visit to Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, highlighted the importance of education. He stated, "an investment in education is an endeavour with life-long returns." This visit included meetings with university leaders and students, accompanied by UAE officials.

The university, a leading public research institution ranked among the top 100 globally and 5th in China, hosted Sheikh Saud on the first day of his four-day trip to Guangdong Province. The itinerary features cultural activities, business discussions, and a cooperation agreement signing between Ras Al Khaimah and Guangdong Province.

H.H. Sheikh Saud emphasised that investing in education shapes future prosperity and development. He noted that quality education equips younger generations with essential knowledge for humanity's advancement and the UAE's growth goals. "Investing in the education of future generations is an endeavor with life-long returns," he said.

Sun Yat-sen University spans five campuses with over 67,000 full-time students and more than 18,000 faculty members. It collaborates with Gulf Medical University in Ajman and recently partnered with UAE University to support scientific research in clean water and energy fields.

Guangdong Province boasts China's largest economy with a GDP of $1.9 trillion (AED6.98 trillion) in 2023. It is a major manufacturing hub featuring electronics, automotive, textiles, pharmaceuticals, high-tech industries, finance, and real estate as key sectors.

H.H. Sheikh Saud expressed hope that his visit would foster collaboration between higher education institutions in Ras Al Khaimah and Guangdong. "I hope that this visit to Sun Yat-sen University can be the catalyst for greater collaboration between higher education institutions," he remarked.

This visit underscores the potential for educational partnerships to drive innovation and economic growth between regions. By strengthening ties with Guangdong's academic institutions, Ras Al Khaimah aims to enhance its educational landscape while contributing to broader regional development goals.
