Transforming Future: Microsoft Launches AI Skills Initiative For 100,000 UAE Government Workers
Microsoft, aligning with local UAE government bodies, recently launched an ambitious initiative aimed at advancing AI skills among government employees. This AI National Skills Initiative seeks to train 100,000 government workers from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah. Revealed during the GITEX Global 2024's opening day on Monday, the year-long program is set to propel the UAE towards becoming a prime destination for AI innovation and technological prowess.
The initiative is tailored to enhance AI understanding and application across different government roles. It offers customized training for organizational leaders, developers, and frontline staff in various departments. This move aims to fill AI knowledge gaps, boost AI fluency, and provide the necessary skills for leveraging AI to improve public services and drive digital advancement. Using Microsoft's AI technology, the program promises personalized learning experiences, enabling employees to integrate AI advancements into their duties and nurture a culture of innovation within the UAE Government.

"Harnessing the transformative power of AI, the AI National Skills Initiative is a significant step in our journey towards AI excellence," remarked Naim Yazbeck, General Manager of Microsoft UAE. "By equipping government employees with AI knowledge and tools, we're not only nurturing local talent but also ensuring the UAE government is well-positioned to explore AI's vast opportunities. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in supporting the UAE's AI ambitions, and we're excited to contribute to cultivating a talent pool that will set benchmarks in AI innovation."
This initiative aligns with Microsoft's dedication to democratize AI learning and contributes significantly to the UAE's National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031. By focusing on government employee training, Microsoft aims to unlock AI's full potential, keeping the UAE at the forefront of AI innovation both regionally and globally.
Following the announcement of the AI National Skills Initiative, Microsoft introduced the AI Skills Navigator. This online platform is designed to offer personalized AI learning experiences, featuring an AI-assisted guide to direct users to appropriate learning paths. It consolidates over 200 free resources from Microsoft Learn, LinkedIn Learning, GitHub, and more. The platform, available in 21 markets, includes tools for identifying skill gaps and showcases success stories, underscoring the impact of AI education globally. This launch is pivotal in Microsoft's efforts to equip individuals across various sectors with AI competencies, thereby spurring innovation and economic growth.
At GITEX Global, Microsoft and its 36 partners are showcasing how AI can positively affect the UAE's wellbeing and happiness. One highlight is the 'Sawa' Generative AI application, which offers insights into the UAE, facilitates access to government services, and aids in health management and public infrastructure maintenance. For example, reporting a damaged public facility through Sawa not only enhances the community but also contributes to the national Happiness Index, reinforcing the UAE's appeal as a living and working destination.
Visitors to GITEX Global can explore the Microsoft stand in Hall 7. It features a Demo Arena for the Sawa application, along with an Xbox Gaming stage, DJ Booth, Surface Zone, Tech Talk arena, and spaces for food, networking, and VIP meetings. This participation underscores Microsoft's commitment to showcasing AI's role in community betterment across the UAE.
