Khalifa University And WaHa Unveil Groundbreaking Technology To Tackle Water Scarcity In Middle East

Khalifa University of Science and Technology, alongside WaHa, a climate technology company, has announced a strengthened collaboration aimed at enhancing the energy efficiency and regional water security.

This atmospheric water generation (AWG) technology is set to bolster water security in the UAE and the broader Middle East region. The partnership is set to leverage advanced material selection and energy efficiency improvements, marking a significant step forward in the creation of sustainable and independent potable water sources.

Khalifa University and WaHa Enhance Water Technology

The WaHa Vaporator®, known for its exceptional energy efficiency in AWG and HVAC systems, benefits from a patented design. The collaboration between WaHa and Khalifa University is not new, as the university has been rigorously testing two iterations of the Vaporator in Abu Dhabi since April 2024.

The tests have yielded promising results, with the latest Vaporator version achieving a flawless performance record, boasting 100% uptime, 99.9% reliability, and surpassing its daily water production targets, all while improving energy efficiency.

Chris Kay, President of WaHa, expressed enthusiasm about the expanded partnership, stating, "We are thrilled to expand our partnership. Our WaHa Vaporator® technology has the potential to revolutionize water production in arid regions, and this collaboration will accelerate our ability to bring reliable, energy-efficient water sources to governments, businesses, and communities across Middle East. The outstanding performance of our latest Vaporator version in Abu Dhabi's challenging climate validates our approach and fuels our excitement for this partnership."

Professor Samuel Sheng Mao, a leading expert in energy and water technologies, Center Director, ASPIRE Virtual Research Institute for Sustainable Energy, and Professor of Practice, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Khalifa University, said, "This collaboration is a significant step in addressing water scarcity challenges in our region. By combining our expertise in materials research with WaHa's innovative AWG technology, we aim to deliver transformative and sustainable water solutions for the UAE and beyond. The impressive results from our ongoing tests underscore the potential of this technology to make a real difference in water-stressed areas."

This enhanced collaboration between WaHa and Khalifa University signals a pivotal advancement in the quest for sustainable and reliable water sources in water-stressed regions of the Middle East. By optimizing the WaHa Vaporator® technology, the partnership is poised to deliver cost-effective and environmentally friendly water solutions that are independent of existing water supply systems, thereby addressing the critical issue of water scarcity in the region.
