Khalifa University Partners With Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation To Launch Online HSE Specialisation
Khalifa University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation (AGF), has expanded its educational offerings by introducing a new Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) specialisation on Coursera.
This initiative aims to broaden the availability of essential skills that underpin the region's evolving knowledge-based economy. By providing these courses, the partnership seeks to prepare both regional and international learners for the challenges and opportunities of the future job market.
The new specialisation, designed in cooperation with Khalifa University's Department of Management Science and Engineering, comprises three foundational courses. These courses delve into key aspects of HSE engineering, including risk management, industrial safety, and environmental sustainability.
This course is not only geared towards imparting vital skills but also serves as a stepping stone towards Khalifa University's forthcoming Master of Engineering programme in Health, Safety and Environmental Engineering. This advanced degree programme is set to be delivered entirely online starting Fall 2025.

Khalifa University's active involvement in the University Consortium for Quality Online Learning (UCQOL) further underscores its commitment to enhancing the scope and quality of digital education. This collaborative effort, which includes AGF, the UAE Ministry of Education, and nine other partner institutions, is dedicated to improving the delivery and impact of online learning.
Professor Bayan Sharif, Provost of Khalifa University, stated, "Through the launch of this specialization on Coursera, Khalifa University reinforces its leadership in advancing the UAE's knowledge economy by addressing critical areas of health, safety, and sustainability."
He also highlighted the initiative's role in providing learners worldwide with access to skills crucial for the industries of tomorrow, thereby supporting the UAE's human capital development goals and Khalifa University's position as a pioneer in digital education innovation.
Dr. Ali Al Mansoori, Associate Provost for Education at Khalifa University, noted, "The specialization courses represent our commitment to expand the reach and accessibility of our programs to more students across the world."
Dr. Al Mansoori pointed out the potential of these courses to motivate Coursera learners to pursue Khalifa University's online Master of Engineering program in HSE Engineering, facilitating skill acquisition and industry relevance.
Dr. Sonia Ben Jaafar, CEO of AGF, also commented, "Education that prepares youth and professionals for the jobs of tomorrow is central to the UAE's vision for sustainable economic growth."
She lauded the partnership's effort to make specialised courses accessible online, thereby enabling learners across the region to acquire skills essential for safety, sustainability, and competitiveness in the knowledge economy.
The specialisation, spearheaded by Dr. Saed Amer, is accessible to professionals and learners worldwide via Coursera. It builds on Khalifa University's previous success with the 'Arabic for Beginners' specialisation, marking the institution as the first Coursera content partner in the UAE to offer education critical to workforce development on a global scale.
