IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi Launches Brand-New Bachelor Of Technology Programmes
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Abu Dhabi (IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi) has recently unveiled its first Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes aimed at addressing the critical demands in energy and digitalisation sectors. This marks a significant milestone as it introduces the first international campus of IIT Delhi, renowned for its excellence in technology education and research.
The inaugural B.Tech programmes in Energy Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering are designed to prepare undergraduates to confront energy challenges and pioneer the future digital age. These programmes aim to develop software solutions enhancing various industries, including analytics, finance, and information technology.
The Energy Engineering programme offers diverse engineering verticals with an emphasis on sustainability. It aims to tackle pressing issues in energy production and management. Meanwhile, the Computer Science and Engineering programme melds theory with practical experience, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to equip students with essential skills in computational thinking and problem-solving.
Dr. Ahmed Sultan Alshoaibi, Acting Executive Director of the Higher Education Sector at the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), highlighted the critical role of technology and engineering in the future economy. "Our undergraduate programmes are set to drive significant change in the UAE and beyond, addressing digital skills gaps and accelerating the transition towards a knowledge-based economy," he noted.
Professor Rangan Banerjee, Director at IIT Delhi, emphasized the campus's goal to offer a transformative educational experience, combining IIT Delhi's academic rigor with a rich campus life. The aim is to equip students to lead in areas such as artificial intelligence, digitalisation, and sustainable energy.
Registration for the academic year 2024-2025 is open until 3 June 2024, with both programmes commencing in September 2024. This follows the launch of a master's programme in Energy Transition and Sustainability (ETS) in January 2024.
Students admitted to the B.Tech programmes at IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi will benefit from a four-year curriculum delivered by local experts and seconded faculty from IIT Delhi. The campus features specialised research centres focusing on sustainable energy, climate studies, computing, and data sciences.
Graduates from IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi will join an extensive alumni network from 23 campuses across India. IIT Delhi has been recognised among the world's top 50 institutions for engineering and technology. The establishment of IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi follows a partnership signed by the Ministry of Education, India, IIT Delhi, and ADEK in July 2023, marking a new chapter in technological education and research in the UAE.
