The British Council, together with New Horizon, has reintroduced English language testing in Yemen through the computer-delivered IELTS, available for the first time since 2015. This development offers students and professionals in Yemen the opportunity to participate in globally recognized English language assessments.
The reintroduction of IELTS in Yemen is a significant stride in the British Council's efforts to support educational and professional advancement in the region. The launch event saw attendance from key figures such as Amir Ramzan, the Regional Director of the British Council in MENA, and Rowaida Khulaidi, the Country Director for the British Council in Yemen. Also present were Mark Knight, the Exams Operations Manager in MENA, and Abdulrahman Alsurmi from New Horizon, all celebrating the achievement of bringing back international qualifications to Yemen.

Amir Ramzan highlighted the importance of this initiative, expressing that the introduction of computer-delivered IELTS in Yemen after nearly a decade underscores the British Council's dedication to fostering education, opportunity, and resilience among Yemeni communities.

The ability to take IELTS now in a faster, more efficient computer-delivered format opens doors for Yemeni students and professionals, helping them realise their aspirations on a global stage," he stated.
Furthermore, the British Council's commitment extends beyond the provision of IELTS. It aims to reach over 10,000 teachers and 5,000 learners by 2025 through initiatives like Teaching for Success, English Connects, and MyTutor. These programs are designed to support both educators and students in Yemen, enhancing their skills and abilities for better educational and professional outcomes.
