Bahrain Floats Tenders For Essential Road Infrastructure Enhancements
Bahrain's Ministry of Works has recently announced the initiation of tenders for several significant road infrastructure development projects, marking a substantial step towards enhancing the Kingdom's transportation network. Among these projects are the demolition work at Ghirayfah for the widening of Al Fateh Highway, engineering consultancy services for the Prince Saud Al Faisal Highway project, and the widening and upgrade of National Charter Highway. This move is part of Bahrain's broader infrastructure improvement plan aimed at bolstering the efficiency and capacity of its transportation system.
The Al Fateh Highway widening project, extending from Mina Salman Junction to Al Juffair Avenue Junction, is identified as a critical initiative for Bahrain. The project entails the demolition of four multi-storey buildings and a single substructure located at Ghirayfah to facilitate the highway's expansion. The targeted structures are on Plots No. 03040258, 03040537, 03040402, 03041089, and 03043207. Contractors interested in undertaking this project must possess a valid pre-qualification license registered with Bahrain's Ministry of Works within the Construction Projects category under Grades AA to F. The project is expected to be completed within four months, with a bidding deadline set for May 8.

For the Prince Saud Al Faisal Highway project, the ministry aims to engage reputable international consultants to conduct comprehensive technical feasibility studies, along with concept and preliminary design. The scope also includes detailed design for the development of Highway Phase-1B, Phase-2, and other associated roadways. Additionally, it encompasses suitable grade separators across Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Causeway and footbridges at strategic locations. An essential part of this project is the preparation of a concept masterplan for a proposed corniche north of Prince Saud Al Faisal Highway and implementing necessary reclamation works for the corniche area. This extensive project is slated for completion over an 18-month period, with bids due by May 8.
National Charter Highway Upgrade
The National Charter Highway project seeks to appoint a distinguished international consultant to perform comprehensive technical feasibility studies, concept and preliminary design, and detail design for widening and upgrading the National Charter Highway. This initiative aims to establish at least a four-lane dual carriageway while improving accessibility for adjacent areas. The project includes developing grade separators at three major junctions to ensure free flow in north-south directions and other priority directions, along with the provision of a new footbridge. The entire project is expected to be completed within 18 months, with a bid submission deadline set for April 28.
These projects underscore Bahrain's commitment to advancing its infrastructure and enhancing its transportation network. By improving road connectivity and capacity, the Kingdom aims to facilitate smoother traffic flow and support its economic development objectives.
