AUS Introduces Scholarships To Attract And Retain Outstanding Global And UAE Students
Starting in Fall 2024, the American University of Sharjah (AUS) is set to introduce innovative undergraduate scholarship schemes aimed at attracting and retaining academically distinguished and talented students from across the globe and within the UAE. The announcement includes the launch of three new scholarship categories: the President's Scholarship, the Chancellor's Scholarship, and the Outstanding Academic Performance Scholarship. This initiative underscores AUS's commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment where financial resources do not dictate access to learning opportunities.
Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of AUS, emphasized the university's dedication to inclusivity and the pivotal role of education in societal advancement. "Cultivating a community where access to education is not determined by financial means alone is fundamental to our vision of a fair and prosperous future," he stated. These scholarships aim to reduce financial barriers, enabling students from diverse backgrounds to pursue their academic goals and, in turn, contribute to community development and innovation.
The President's Scholarship, earmarked for up to 20 recipients annually and aimed at students outside the UAE, offers comprehensive benefits. These include full tuition and lab fee coverage, application fee waiver, monthly stipend, on-campus housing, three round-trip tickets during the study period, and student medical insurance. Meanwhile, the Chancellor's Scholarship will grant up to 10 awards per year to applicants residing in the UAE. It similarly covers tuition and lab fees in full, alongside an application fee waiver, on-campus housing, and student medical insurance.
Both scholarships are available for qualifying first-year, first-time students who commence their studies in the fall semester, with selection based on academic merit among other achievements. Additionally, AUS introduces the Outstanding Academic Performance Scholarship for currently enrolled undergraduate students. Offering 10 scholarships, this scheme is competitive and covers full tuition and lab fees. Eligible students, nominated by AUS colleges or schools, must have a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or above after 60 credit hours by their second year's spring semester to qualify for the scholarship in their third year.
All three scholarships are renewable, subject to the continuation of meeting the scholarship requirements. This move by AUS not only highlights its ongoing commitment to academic excellence and cultural diversity but also demonstrates its dedication to supporting students financially. Currently, approximately two-thirds of AUS students benefit from some form of scholarship or financial grant.
The introduction of these scholarships aligns with AUS's broader mission to provide quality higher education opportunities to deserving students. By recognizing and rewarding outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential, and community involvement, AUS continues to be a leading institution in offering comprehensive scholarship programs across various academic disciplines.
