AUS Unveils Zakat-Eligible Scholarships For Students: A Game-Changer In Education Funding

In the spirit of Ramadan, a period marked by giving and compassion, the American University of Sharjah (AUS) is encouraging both individuals and organisations to donate towards student scholarships. Contributions towards these scholarships are now more impactful, following a formal declaration by the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah. This declaration states that donations to AUS for student scholarships qualify as Zakat, a fundamental Islamic practice of almsgiving.

Zakat, a key pillar of Islam, symbolizes both purification and charity, designed to support those in financial need. The recent Fatwa issued by the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah specifies that supporting higher education through scholarships at AUS is a valid form of Zakat.
