ZATCA Promotes Economic Growth And Fair Competition In Saudi Arabia
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) is dedicated to fostering a favourable environment for traders and investors in Saudi Arabia. Hamoud Al-Harbi, the spokesperson for ZATCA, highlighted the authority's efforts to ensure fair market competition and enforce compliance with zakat, tax, and customs regulations.
Al-Harbi noted that adherence to these regulations will boost business activities, aligning with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals. This compliance is expected to contribute significantly to the growth and diversification of the national economy. He encouraged individuals to utilise the services and 130 guiding principles available on ZATCA's website, which aim to educate taxpayers about the authority's procedures and services.

ZATCA conducts daily inspections and follow-ups to monitor tax situations and prevent evasion. The authority deals with tax-evasion cases through established rules, procedures, and penalties outlined in the Value Added Tax and Selective Tax mechanisms. Public decisions may be made to penalise tax evaders as a measure of accountability and deterrence.
Al-Harbi emphasised the importance of combating tax evasion, including submitting incorrect data or fabricating invoices. Importing, producing, or possessing goods without proper registration also constitutes selective tax evasion. He urged taxpayers to cooperate with ZATCA by disclosing accurate information voluntarily to ensure fairness.
The public is encouraged to report instances of tax evasion. ZATCA offers rewards up to 2.5% of the value of violations and fines, with a maximum reward of SAR1 million and a minimum of SAR1,000 for valid reports. This initiative aims to involve citizens in maintaining economic integrity.
