The theme, focusing on human-centric AI, reveals that generative and predictive AI technologies are at the forefront of initiating significant shifts, granting businesses a competitive edge. This year-long research, which was a collaborative effort between MIT SMR and TCS, gathered insights from industry leaders at prominent organizations like Walmart, Meta, MasterCard, and Pernod Ricard.

The study sheds light on a pivotal transformation in AI's role within businesses — from an advisory capacity to a more architectural function. This evolution underscores AI's growing importance not just in refining processes but in enhancing the range of choices available for improved decision-making. Companies that adeptly navigate this shift are gaining a considerable lead over those adhering to conventional decision-making models.

TCS brings its extensive industry knowledge to aid global corporations through their AI-driven digital transformation journeys. "ICAs flip the script. They do not just learn from decisions — they learn how to improve the environment in which decisions are made. That's not analytics, that's architecture," stated Michael Schrage, Research Fellow at MIT Sloan's Initiative on the Digital Economy and co-author of the report.

Companies employing Generative AI (GenAI) have witnessed heightened productivity, cost reductions, and new growth avenues. For example, in retail, AI has empowered companies like Pernod Ricard and Walmart to tackle challenges in turnover, customer personalisation, and supply chain management with innovative solutions.

In manufacturing, AI's role in hybrid decision-making has led to superior product design and supply chain efficiency. Similarly, in the BFSI sector, ICAs are pivotal in addressing challenges related to risk management, regulatory compliance, and customer experience. Furthermore, in communications, media, and technology, AI and ICAs are instrumental in identifying and capitalising on lucrative opportunities.

The healthcare sector illustrates the transformative potential of human-centric AI in drug discovery, trials, diagnostics, and patient care, indicating a significant reduction in time and costs associated with drug research.

David Kiron, editorial director at MIT Sloan Management Review, emphasized, "This isn't AI as co-pilot. This is AI and humans working together as architects to redesign how people perceive, weigh, and act on choices."
