Sharjah Cultural Salon Highlights Global Status And Contributions Of Muslim Women

The Sharjah Cultural Salon, organised by the Cultural Office at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, focused on "Muslim Women Globally" during International Women's Day. The event, held via Microsoft Teams, featured Dr. Sadiqa Mohammed as a guest speaker and was moderated by journalist Aisha Al Ruwaimah.

Dr. Sadiqa highlighted that Muslim women have unique qualities essential for building strong families, which are the cornerstone of a healthy society. She countered misconceptions about women being weak or incapable, asserting that Islam recognises them as strong and influential contributors to family and community development.

Exploring the Global Status of Muslim Women

The discussion also covered areas where Muslim women have excelled globally. Dr. Sadiqa praised women's achievements in politics, citing figures like Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi and Shamma Al Mazrouei as examples of how women can succeed while adhering to their religious values.

Dr. Sadiqa stressed the importance of understanding women's status through Quranic teachings and the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). She noted that Islam has always honoured women and acknowledged their vital contributions both historically and in modern society.

The conversation addressed challenges faced by Muslim women, including cultural invasion affecting their status and the marginalisation of Arabic, despite it being the Quran's language. Dr. Sadiqa emphasised preserving Islamic identity and urged following the example of female companions of the Prophet for success.

She pointed out that the Quran specifically addresses women's issues in Surah An-Nisa (The Women) and Surah Maryam. Women are mentioned approximately 85 times in the Quran, highlighting Islam's emphasis on their importance.

The session underscored that Muslim women hold a unique position within Islam. Dr. Sadiqa affirmed that Islam grants them sufficient freedom to fulfill their roles effectively.

The event concluded with an emphasis on recognising Muslim women's significant contributions globally while maintaining their religious commitments and cultural identity.
